Public Safety
My approach includes fully supporting our police officers and firefighters with adequate resources, strong training, and the tools they need to protect us. I'm committed to building a safe community on trust, communication, and proactive measures—working with law enforcement, fire services, and residents to maintain our quality of life, finding solutions together instead of creating divides (council partnering with PD and fire leadership to grow at the right pace). We'll focus on more officers and firefighters on the front lines for visible presence and rapid response, targeted patrols in areas of concern, broader coverage, and modern capabilities—all funded through controlled growth revenue and efficiency gains, without overburdening taxpayers.
My plan prioritizes people, training, and prevention to make Hollister safer—fully supporting both police and firefighters: • Add more police officers with a strong emphasis on training—ensuring they're well-prepared for community needs, de-escalation, and modern challenges. • With increased staffing, enable targeted patrols in high-concern areas and broader coverage across the city for faster response and visible deterrence. • Prefer human officers over excessive cameras—focusing on personal presence that builds trust and addresses issues proactively. • Fully support firefighters by addressing key problems: adding staffing to handle growing calls, providing modern equipment/training for fires/medical emergencies/disasters, and ensuring quick response times as the city expands. • Emphasize proactive measures like community programs, youth outreach, and partnerships with residents/schools to prevent crime before it starts. • Work collaboratively with law enforcement and fire services—council partnering with leadership to plan growth at the pace our city needs, seeking their input on solutions. • Fund improvements through revenue from smart growth (impact fees, commercial taxes) and grants—tying to infrastructure fixes (better roads reduce accidents) and efficiency savings, with no new taxes on residents.
